Even as its sibling Andhra Pradesh builds a brand new Capital city Amaravati, the Telangana government is heavily promoting Bharat Future City, a ‘Fourth City’ as Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy refers to, to decongest the capacity city.

The Congress government plans to develop about 765 sq metres towards the South of Hyderabad, along the Nagarjunasagar and Srisailam Highways and beyond the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). It set up the Future City Development Authority (FCDA) to drive integrated urban development in the area. “Positioned beyond traditional GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) boundaries, FCDA is planned as a model for future-ready, sustainable, and inclusive urbanisation,” a senior official said.

The government plans a focussed business development at the core, with 13,500 acres, where it intends to promote the development of emerging technology companies in the AI and Quantum sectors. The Central Business District would comprise six key districts — AI City, Health City, the Entertainment District, the Sports Hub, the Education Zone, and the Eco-Tourism Hub.Telangana IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu said that the Future City will play a crucial role in the State’s journey towards the $3- trillion economy by 2047. He said it will create 13 lakh jobs. “It will have townships to house at least 9 lakhs. The Young India Skills University will commence operations in one month. Around 400 acres are being allocated exclusively for data centres,” he said.

Reliance Foundation has partnered with the State government to establish Vantara, a wildlife conservation centre within the city.

“Connect with the ORR, it is just a half-an-hour traffic-free ride from the airport,” the official said.

New investments

The State government is driving some of the new investments that it signed MoUs with at the summit to this area.

Beyond the core area, the city would have an electronics and advanced manufacturing zone, life sciences and pharmaceuticals hub, and the data centre hub.
